About SCJH & Learn to Skate or "LTS":
If you are looking for beginner skating classes (hockey and figure) for your child (ages 3 and up) these classes are for you!
If you want Hockey Specific Youth Learn to Skate classes please click HERE
Learn To Skate USA or "LTS" is a program designed by US figure skating. LTS is for the new skater through the basic levels of skating. Skating Club of Jackson Hole or "SCJH" offers an interactive and safe skating experience for students of all ages and abilities in the only indoor ice skating rink in Jackson Hole, WY.  All of our SCJH instructors are Safesport/Background check cleared as well as registered through Learn To Skate USA or "LTS".

About Our LTS Classes:
Classes are divided by age, ability and skate type. If you are new please register your skater for basic 1 (ages 6 and up) or Snowplow sam for ages 3-5.
SCJH Learn to Skate group classes meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:00pm. Included in your class fee is a monitored Open Skate from 4:10-4:30pm for Basic 1 and above skaters OR If your skater is a Snowplow sam level a 15min off the ice class from 4:15-4:30pm Printable calendars are available HERE.

During the open practice/open skate if your skater wishes to take a private lesson they may do so on the days they've registered for class (please book and pay for your lesson's directly with SCJH staff). If you are wishing to take lesson on other days and times please talk to the SCJH coach you are working with or SCJH director and they can help you navigate additional times (all additional times skaters will need to be in a lesson and pay the ice fee). We also will be running show practice during the open skate portion which can be added on to your class registration. Please register early this season for the show since we will be starting practice on 1/17, show info can be fond HERE.
Skate Rental can be added to your registration (or you can pay $5.00 per skate). Skates can be purchased new through sites like amazon (we do
suggest all skaters buy skates that have some ankle support). More info (like what to wear, on my skaters first day & can my skater be unattended before practice) is available below in the FAQ.

A Brief COVID & Refund Disclaimer:
In this paragraph we will go through the big topics of SCJH's policy/waivers (which you will sign as apart of your registration process). SCJH has in the past had a mask policy for all skaters and coaches. At this time SCJH has lifted it's Masking policy and hopes it stays that way but , If CDC/Town/school recommendation changes or our community's COVID positive cases increase we may revert back to our stricter COVID POLICY put into effect by SCJH which will include wearing a mask at all times.  If your skater is taking a private lesson please check with their coach on their mask policy/COVID Policies. SCJH will keep you posted on any change through email. As a member of our community and program SCJH ask that skaters and parents act with humanity, kindness, empathy & respect. We do not tolerate racism, discrimination, harassment or hate.  SCJH has the right to refuse service to skaters/parents not following club protocol & policies. Please make sure you read through all the waivers carefully during the registration process.  SCJH does it's best to work with changes (we know life happens) but will not be issuing any refunds.

What Level To Register Your Skater For:
NEW SKATER: If your skater is ages 3-5 during enrollment you will register them in the Snowplow Sam Class, even if the skater was in Snowplow Sam before (Snowplow Sam testing goes to Snowplow level 4).  If you skater is ages 6 & up at the time of enrollment you will register them for Basic 1. Please enroll your new Learn to Skate skater either in Basic 1 or Snowplow sam even if they have some skating experience! We are excited they've been on the ice but, they will need to start in the levels mentioned above. If they are ready we will move them up to the next level, we will not hold your skater back!  Remember it's easier to move up in levels rather than down. All of our After-school Learn to Skate classes are on the ice at the same time. There is more info in the FAQ at the bottom of this page. RETURNING SKATER: If your skater has passed a basic level & received a badge you will enroll them in the next level up (example: if your skater received a basic one badge you will enroll them in basic 2). If you didn't make testing please reach out to us through email so we can guide you to the correct level, please do not guess on levels.

-Be on time & Follow These Steps To Make Group Class Easy-

1. Arrive  20 minutes before your class kicks off (15 mins thereafter). We operate out of the Snow King Event & Sports Center.

2.  Check in at the registration desk.

3. Your skater will receive a name tag & Welcome Packet. On the name tag you will see a color this color will be "their group level/name". Please make sure you leave your skaters name tag on the table after each skate & review the packet.

4. Lace skates up. Skates can be rented for $5.00 from the rink but rentals are not included in the group lesson pricing. Remember to only allow your skaters to walk on protective surfaces, NEVER WALK ON CONCRETE with skates (unless the blades have hard guards). SCJH does have some used skates available for purchase  or we are happy to guide you in the process of  buying a new pair. Helmets or hats are recommend for all new skaters.

 5. Students will meet off ice with their instructor - look for the matching color on the name tag to coaches binders.   Coaches will go over class procedures and Cover Policy's. This is also good time to meet and become acquainted with your new instructor and ask any questions you may have. After the first couple of lessons skaters will be allowed to immediately take the ice and open skate till their group class.

The people you will meet:  Sandy Sandberg our program coordinator.  Lacey Merrell our Skating Director & your group skating Instructor

Frequent Asked Questions & Useful Links:
*Can I leave my skater/ Can my skater be at the rink by themselves?
If your skater is in Snowplow Sam or needing help frequent help (like going to the bathroom or tying their skates) we recommend a parent or guardian is at skating. Coaches are unable to leave a class to help with skates and are unable to go into the restroom with a skater due to Safesport policies. If your skater is ridding the bus to the rink that is ok but please understand this time is not monitored by SCJH staff and we ask that skaters treat the space with respect and aren't running in the building or in the stands as well as cleaning up after themselves.
*What Level Do I Sign My Skater Up For?

If your skater is ages 3-5 during enrollment you will register them in the Snowplow Sam Class, even if the skater was in Snowplow Sam before (Snowplow Sam testing goes to Snowplow level 4).  If Skaters is ages 6 & up at the time of enrollment you will register them for Basic 1.  If your skater has passed a basic level & Received a badge you will enroll them in the next level up.

*My Skater Hasn't Taken Group Classes But Has Skated Before..
We are excited they've been on the ice but, they will need to start in the levels mentioned above. If they are ready we will move them up to the next level, we will not hold your skater back!  Remember it's much easier to move up in levels rather than down.

*Yes To Helmets and Head Protection:
All SNOWPLOW SAM SKATERS, ages 3-6, must wear a helmet. Nothing is to be worn underneath the helmet for proper fitting. Any new skaters to Learn to Skate USA are also encouraged to wear a hat or bring and wear a helmet for the first few class until a comfortable balance is established. We recommend CSA helmets!

*Yes Bring lots of layers.
Comfort and moving freely about are essential for new skaters. Choose sweatpants or warm-up pants instead of bulkier snow pants. Bring a jacket too, since indoor rinks do set thermostats at a brisk 50 degrees Fahrenheit. No heavy ski clothes as they prohibit movement and bending.

*What Socks Do I Put My Skater In?
Thin over thick. Bulkier, thicker socks limit support and movement and create unwanted bumps inside the boots. Go with lightweight socks or thinner tights.

*What Kind Of Gloves?
Gloves are preferable to mittens as they provide articulation. Either way, mittens or gloves are suitable.

*Where do you purchase skating gear:
Skate Rental can be added to your registration (or you can pay $5.00 per skate). Skates can be purchased new through sites like amazon (we do suggest all skaters buy skates that have some ankle support). Please do not buy skates that are "floppy" or bendable around the ankle. SCJH does have some used skates available for purchase or  you can purchase new online (we recommend something like these.)
